Ndidi Dike

Constellations – Floating Space, Motion and Remembrance

In her multimedia installations the Nigerian artist Ndidi Dike describes constellations and spaces: Hierarchies, relations and arrangements between human beings and material objects. In this exhibition, the topics migration and migration politics, transnationalism and the globalized consumer culture are in focus.

Migration and the movement of people in space are no contemporary phenomena. On the very contrary: Though conditions, reasons and consequences of these movements vary, migration is an essential part of human history for thousands of years.

Ndidi Dike reminds us of the transatlantic trade of enslaved human beings, as one of the salient examples of forced brutal 'migration' in history, while drawing a thread to the current realities that cause migration, displacement and flight today.
